Dungarvan and The Nire Valley

The Dungarvan and the Nire Valley route will take you up many steep and strenuous roads and occasionally brings you on main routes. Along the way soak up the majestic beauty of the Comeragh Mountains and the alluring setting of Dungarvan bay.

Dungarvan - Ballymacarbry - Knockaun - Rathgormack - Ballyhest - Lemybrien - Dungarvan

Distance: 77.7km (46.6 miles) 
Time to Allow: 5 - 6 hours 
  • From the Square in Dungarvan head south on the R675 towards O’Connell Street before turning right at O’Connell Street. At the Kilrush roundabout go straight through onto the R672 and travel on for about 4km.
  • Turn right onto the R672 and travel straight on for about 15km. Continue straight on the R671 for a further 4.6km until you reach Ballymacarbry. In Ballymacarbry turn right over the small bridge towards the Knockaun.
  • Turn left and continue on for about 1.6km before turning right towards the R678 and travel on for about 5.8km.
  • Turn right at Harney’s Cross and travel on for about 12.9km past Rathgormack you will reach a crossroads at Ballyhest. Turn right and travel on for about 15.4km. Turn right again to join the N25 and travel for about 11.8km until you return back to Dungarvan.
