New Ross, Waterford and Passage East

The New Ross, Waterford and Passage East route takes you through the idyllic fishing village of Passage East with its ancient port most associated with pivotal moments in Irish history.  

New Ross - Waterford - Passage East - Ballyhack - New Ross

Distance: 64km (40 miles) 
Time to Allow: 3 - 4 hours 
  • Start your cycling route in New Ross and head west on the N25 towards the Thomastown road traveling on for about 21.4km going through one roundabout.
  • At the roundabout take the first exit and stay on the N25 until you reach Waterford City. In Waterford city head south on the N25 towards Gratton Quay. Turn left at Merchants Quay and travel straight on for about 1km. Turn left at Lombard Street and continue to follow the R683 for about 9km going through four roundabouts.
  • Turn left to stay on the R683 and travel on for about 2km until you reach Passage East. Head southeast on the R683 towards Parade Square before turning left at Barrack Street. Take the Passage East – Ballyhack ferry to Wexford.
  • Continue straight on the R733 until you reach Ballyhack and from here head northeast on the R733. Turn left to stay on the R733 and then turn left again and continue to travel on for about 2.5km.
  • Turn left and then turn right to continue to stay on the R733. Turn left again and travel on for about 1.5km. Then turn right before turning left again and travel on for about 5km.
  • Turn left and travel on for about 4.8km and then turn slightly left at the N25 and continue on to finish the route back to New Ross.
