Without actually entering the mountain terrain, the Kelly Legacy takes you on a circuit of the Comeragh Mountains in an anti-clockwise direction, beginning in Dungarvan and through some of the most beautiful parts of the County.

The Kelly Legacy

The Kelly Legacy is a route that Sean Kelly has made rightly famous. It is indeed one of his legacies to cycling. It is a safe demanding route that is suitable for the experienced touring cyclist.

Dungarvan - Lemybrien - Carrick-on-Suir - Clonmel - Ballymacarbry - Dungarvan

Distance: 100km (62 miles)
Time to Allow:  5 - 7 hours
  • Begin your cycle in Dungarvan and taking the N25 travel as far as Lemybrien before swinging onto the R676 towards Carrick-on-Suir.
  • With the lovely Comeraghs on the left, there is a gentle climb most of the way to Carrick-on-Suir, where the route turns left onto the R680 and runs parallel to, and south of, the River Suir the 22km to Clonmel.
  • Skirting the town of Clonmel on the southern side, take a left onto R671 at Kilmacomma and travel on to the picturesque village of Ballymacarbry.
  • From here, the route continues in a southerly direction before eventually arriving at the N72. Turn slightly right at the R672 and continue on for about 3kn until you return back at the home base of Dungarvan. There are no murderous, grueling climbs on this route, but, have no doubts, this is still a tough cycle and only for experienced cyclists.
