This route follows the coast from the city and back again, allowing visitors to explore and sample the culture and heritage that each town and village has to offer.

Waterford Coastal Drive

Scattered amongst the historical attractions along the Waterford Coastal drive, there are beaches and wonderful scenic views from the many cliffs and coves along the coast.

Waterford City - Dunmore East - Tramore - Annestown - Bunmahon -Stradbally - Dungarvan - Ring - Ardmore

Distance: 112km (67.2miles) 
Time to Allow: 2 hours 25 minutes 
  • From the first roundabout into Waterford city (Holycross) from the Dungarvan side, take the third exit. At the Airport roundabout, take the third exit on the R708.
  • Turn left at the R685 and then turn right at the R684. Take a slight left at Cuan an Dúin (R684) and continue to follow the R684 until you reach Dunmore East. 
  • From the centre of the village of Dunmore East, head east and turn right at Harbour road. Turn left at Convent road (R684) and turn left again just after the Hermitage and continue until you reach Corbally.
  • Continue until you reach the crossroads at Corbally Beg and turn left. At the Kilmacleague crossroads take a left towards the R685. Turn left on the R685 and continue straight on.
  • Turn left again to stay on the R685 (Dunmore East road) and at Pickardstown turn left at the Waterford road (R675). Continue to follow the R675 through three roundabouts.
  • From Ballycarnane head southwest on the Dungarvan road (R675) and continue through two roundabouts. Turn slightly left near Fenor to stay on the R675 until you reach Woodstown and then Annestown.
  • From Annestown head west on the R675 and continue straight taking a left at Knockmahon before entering Bunmahon. From Bunmahon head southwest on the R675 for about 0.5km and then turn left.
  • Travel straight on for about 5.7km and then turn left at Newtown and head towards Stradbally. In the village of Stradbally head south towards Church lane continue for 3.8km. Turn left at the R675 and continue for about 9.3km.
  • Turn right at the Coolagh road (R675) and then turn left on the N25. At the first roundabout take the second exit and go straight the next five roundabouts and on the sixth take the second exit. Continue on the N25 and turn left at R674.
  • At the first fork in the road take a right and at the second take a right again. You can turn left at this fork if you wish to visit the village of An Rinn. Continue for about 7.7km and then turn left towards Ballycurreen North and continue straight for about 5km.
  • Turn left towards the R673 and at Lissarow turn left on the R673. Then turn left again at Crushea to stay on the R673 continuing straight into the village of Ardmore. You can continue the journey back to Waterford city.
