Mount Melleray Abbey is a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1832 by a group of Irish Monks who had been expelled from Melleray in Brittany, France.

It is still a fully functional monastery and is open to visitors seeking quiet reflection and those who want to see something of a daily routine. The Grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes on the way up to the abbey is also a favourite spot to visit. During the summer months, all night prayer vigils are every Saturday night. The Grotto is open for prayer at all times, day or night. Visitors to the Abbey are asked to respect the sanctity of the place.
