Glenshelane River Walk takes you along the river up into the Glenshelane Valley sheltered by a pleasant informal forest of beech, ash, oak and many beautiful flora and fauna.

Glenshelane River Walk

Distance: 9km (5.5miles)
Suitability: Suitable for all
Terrain:  Mainly forest tracks which can be muddy in the winter and tarmac road for a short distance.

From the car park travel upstream through the captivating woodland which features pockets of the original oak and later stands of Norway spruce. The track will continue to ascend and descend until you meet the combined Monavugga and Glenfallia rivers. A carpet of bluebells is to be seen in spring while at early summer the rhododendrons are in bloom. The track will descend and ascend as it follows the meandering river until you see a forestry track come into sight on the far end.

Follow the broadening of the track and look out for a grassy path going left to a footbridge over the river. Cross the bridge and turn left and continue on until you reach a black gate which leads back into the forestry again. A small wooden bridge crosses back over the Glenshelane River all collectively making for a truly delightful ramble.
