As you walk around the forest and lakeshore walks of Kilclooney Wood take in the beauty of the flora and fauna that cover this wood.Kilclooney Wood
Kilclooney Wood just outside Kilmacthomas was originally part of the Curraghmore Estate. The area is reputed to have been a hiding place for ‘Crotty the Robber’ a highwayman of the 19th century. The area is strewn with boulders, evidence of the ice age, and local evidence of rock slides resulting from weathering of rock faces in the nearby Comeragh Mountains. The Wood is mainly coniferous with woodland such as Sitka Spruce, Scots Pine, Norwegian Spruce and European Larch and also a small number of broadleaves. Heather and bracken can be found on the slopes, while bramble and broadleaf weeds can be found lower down.
