The Brickey Valley Walk

Distance: 12km (7.5 miles)
Suitability: Suitable for all
Terrain:  Public roadway and grassy road

At Twomile Bridge turn right to begin the walk and travel along the tarred road until you meet a grassy road. Keep on this road and you will pass the West Waterford Golf Club and as you approach the end, you will find the ruins of the castle, perched on a limestone knoll. Taking the left at the junction, you will travel in front of the castle, and eventually arrive at the ruins of Knockaun Church.

From here turn right here and follow the narrow path, with its steep gradient. The path will turn left at Knockaunabouchala Hill, it continues around Kilnafarna Hill, which gives an excellent view of the entire surrounding area. After two left turns the trail will begin to lead back down the valley and a right turn at the next junction will lead you back to the beginning.

This route can be divided into two shorter routes, one travelling to Knockaun Castle and church and returning to the path by travelling south, and the second travelling up Kilnafarna Hill, with its steep incline.
