Heritage Sites in VillerstownDromana Bridge (1849) Dromana Bridge is an extraordinary Hindu-Gothic gateway. It is the sole example of "Brighton Pavilion" architecture in Ireland on the bridge over the river Finisk. It was built in 1849 by Lord Stuart de Decies. Local tradition maintains that the arch was put up as a temporary structure to welcome home a honeymoon couple, who were so taken with it that they had it made permanent. Dromana House (17th century) Dromana House and Gardens is a 17th century house overlooking a wild and wonderful garden is home to the Villers-Stuarts. Garden and woodland walks perched above the river Blackwater, feature mostly rhododendrons and acid loving plants. The formal terrace overlooks the river and the platform is formed by the roof of a boathouse below. |
