Heritage Towns have their own unique character provided by a combination of architectural styles, often spanning many centuries, which gives them - and their visitors - a special feeling for the past.

What makes Heritage Towns so special is the careful way in which their historical features are presented whether it is told in an explanatory visitor centre, signposted walk or trail around the town or a specially tailored guided tour.

With its long and celebrated history Lismore is the only Heritage Town in County Waterford. The name Lismore comes from two words, Lios meaning 'Fort' and Mhór meaning 'Great'. Its meaning is derived from the Round Hill or Great Irish Fort found east of the town.
