Nestled around Ardmore Bay, Ardmore is an attractive little resort with a long sandy beach and is one of the oldest Christian settlements in Ireland.
It is renowned for its fine 12th century Round Tower, a beautifully proportioned monument to Irish monastic life and is one of the finest, if latest, examples of this type of structure in Ireland. Round Towers were built between the 9th and 12th centuries and were used as bell towers and places of refuge for the monks and their treasury of manuscripts and altar ware in times of attack.
Ardmore is the oldest Christian settlement in Ireland. St. Declan lived in the period 350 - 450 AD and Christianised this area before the coming of St. Patrick. St. Declan's feast day is "Pattern Day" every 24th of July.
Ardmore has many fine seaside Pubs and Restaurants that cater for all tastes.
Ardmore boasts some fascinating historical Attractions and a visit to the beautifully proportioned Round Tower and Cathedral or St. Declan's Stone is a must.
A Walk in the surrounding areas of Ardmore is a great way to sample the stunning views and to visit the historical sites that this town has to offer.
