With the River Blackwater and the multipurpose centre of the Ballyrafter Centre, witnessing the art of showjumping, enjoying the peace and tranquility of fishing and taking on a spot of archery are a must.Fishing at the River Blackwater The River Blackwater is best known for its salmon fishing drawing dedicated anglers to its bank as it receives excellent runs of the fish throughout the year. Sea trout can also be found at the lower reaches of the river and in one of its tributaries, the River Bride. Fly fishing is also quite popular on the River Blackwater. The Blackwater River is a mixed fishery and coarse fishing is controlled by the Cappoquin Coarse Angling Club by arrangement of Lismore Estates. Anglers must note that fishing is restricted to the area at Glenribbeen Bridge. Glenribbeen Eco Lodge has an archery school run by Peter O’Connor where a purpose built archery shoot is erected for you to learn how to shoot 'loose arrows' correctly and safely. Glenribbeen Eco Lodge also has facilities to make arrows and show the proper care needed for archery and the equipment and the making of 3D targets can also be taught.
The Ballyrafter Centre The Ballyrafter Centre, established 26 years ago as a multipurpose centre, features a main indoor arena measuring 16,000 square feet. Showjumping is held, for all levels, most weekends throughout the year in both the indoor Arena and the outdoor all-weather show arena. Visitors can observe showjumping at the Ballyrafter Centre for all levels with showjumping being held throughout the year in both the indoor arena and the outdoor all-weather show arena.
