The bell tower sits high above the red sandstone building of St. Carthage’s Church while the statue of St. Michael the Archangel stands on a pedestal between the main doors.

St. Carthage's Church Walk through the gates at St. Carthage’s Church stand in awe of the rose window framed by the symbols of the apostles. The statue of St. Carthage stands in the alcove above the window of this beautiful church designed by Dublin born Walter Doolin, one of the finest examples of Lombardo-Romanesque churches in Ireland. Walter Doolin trained as an architect with some other fine examples of his work at Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary and New Ross, Co. Wexford.

St. Carthage’s Church was officially opened in 1884 and can accommodate over a thousand people. Inside the church some many interesting painting can be found as well as stained glass windows and a decorative altar.
