The Immrama Festival of Travel Writing is one of the first festivals of its kind in the world and is growing in popularity each year.
The Immrama Festival of Travel Writing
The Immrama Festival of Travel Writing is held in Lismore for one weekend in June each year since 2003 and has been dedicated to the art of travel writing, good music and fine entertainment since its inception.
Over the centuries many people have travelled to and from Lismore, so it is only right that this culture of travel is celebrated each year. Immrama comes from the old Irish word 'Imram' meaning 'Journey', and each year, the Immrama Festival takes their visitors on a journey around the world through the thoughts, words and books of each travel writer that appears.
Immrama explores a different theme annually, past programmes include ‘Journey’s to the Top of the World’ with Michael Palin and Brian Keenan, ‘Travel and Conflict’ with Charlie Bird and Robert Fisk, ‘The Silk Road’ with Jung Chang and Jon Halliday, ‘Africa – Travel and People’ with George Alagiah and Tim Butcher and ‘Extraordinary Travels, Extraordinary Lives’ with Kate Adie and Fergal Keane.
