Together with An Rinn, An Sean Phobal (Old Parish) makes up the Waterford Gaeltacht. Legend has it that Saint Colman brought Christianity to An Sean Phobal long before St. Patrick came to Ireland, making it the oldest parish in Ireland. Located on the Waterford coast, between Dungarvan and Youghal, An Sean Phobal is quite a large area with 8km of coastline made up of dramatic, 70 metre-high cliffs, deeply incised gullies and small bays.

Old Parish An Sean Phobal is a quiet, undulating area that rises high above the sea and the grasslands along the cliffs are home to a plethora of seabirds, which makes An Sean Phobal a paradise for birdwatchers and people interested in wildlife.

The seas along An Sean Phobal's coast are notoriously rough and it is known that there are numerous wrecks lying off-shore.
